A few of my favourite things..

Calf Love

What they really love is milk.

These little calves live on a dairy farm and are fed milk from buckets.  They make such a production of feeding time that the milk goes everywhere.  When the buckets are taken away, they start a frenzy of milk recovery.  Ears, noses, mouths; nothing is exempt from the recovery endeavour.

  1. The calves would love to suckle from the mother but the latest animal husbandry practices advocate weaning at birth. That could be the reason for calf love 🙂

  2. Dairyman, thanks for your visit. I’m not sure if it is to moderate the amount of milk they drink that the calves are not fed by the cows: I’m sure both parties would prefer it! Weaning at birth seems a little harsh..

Wandering about your site I couldn’t resist the offer to look at the carrot milk recipe. Who’d have thought? 🙂

  5. Thanks, Amanda, they are sweet things.

Burstmode, I have heard reports that such behaviour is not unique to the offspring of cows…
