A few of my favourite things..

Fiery Skimmer

Can you see the face on his back?

It reminded me of that creepiest of kid’s shows; H.R. Pufnstuf.  Remember the flute with the face?

  1. Wow, that is bright red! I took pictures of “red” dragonflies at my brother-in-law’s house last summer, but they weren’t even close to THIS red!
I do see the face on his back! Never would have if you didn’t point it out.

  2. Michaela, the colour seems flat here, as in real life, they almost glow, they are so red!

Looks like a lion’s face trapped under the surface.

  5. Anonymous, I don’t see a lion, so much as a maybe middle aged, unhappy, male, Maori.

Burstmode, thanks. I marvel that my parents let me watch H.R. I have a real sense of horror on recollecting it!

  8. Vimal, he wasn’t eating, he had actually been courting (oh! unrequited love..), but the white part in front of his head is the very tip of the piece of dry grass he was resting on.

Hello Sportsman Creek. I think wordpress link one of your posts to mine (in that related topics thing), because I found when visiting that I’ve wandered your space quite recently. Forgive me for not commenting at the time, but I didn’t know if you were a “work” kind of a blog, or a friendly to people who are rank amateurs kind. Now that you’ve made that distinction, I shall return 😀

This is a beautiful shot Mrs BB. Good job you don’t live in NZ – making comments like that about middle aged men! 🙂

ah yes! very clever observation Mrs BB. I don’t remember watching HR Puff and stuff or whatever it’s called, but I am sure I must have a few times.

Wow, that is so amazing to see this obvious ‘face’…

Noooo, but just their rugby team is enough to make me think discretion would be the better part of valor, should I ever immigrate to that most removed of Australian states 😉

Amanda, I spend a lot of time watching these dragonflies, but I have never noticed the face, before seeing it in the photo. It’s one of the reasons I enjoy my camera so much 🙂
