A few of my favourite things..

Romeo and Juliet

Ever watched butterflies court? I feel privileged to have intruded on this pair. Β Must be a male thing, though, that such a hairy, old, beat up specimen as this one, has perfect confidence in his ability to charm that unblemished young thing on the leaf.

  1. Yep! Attraction is an odd thing. I wonder what he is looking for? Nice shot, too.

    • Burstmode, that’s maybe something you should ask your parents. πŸ˜›

      • hehehehe…I meant, what attracts a butterfly? Is it the color, the pattern or something else.

        • Oh! Of course. πŸ˜‰

Although not an authority by any means, I have watched a lot of butterflies. I think it is the colour that attracts them. When this fellow was a courting, he lost the object of his passion when she moved to another tree. He frantically flew searching, and alighted several times on a blue toy my daughter had left nearby. I have also been accosted by butterflies while I wore bright colours, so suspect that they don’t have great eyesight!

    August 29, 2011 at 11:45 pm

    • Hi, tripsfor2, they are only in the tropical/subtropical parts of Australia, and in the rain forests of Asia.

      Thanks for your comment.

  3. Whist I find your blog to be truly inspirational… I am so darn envious – all at the same time! How is that so? Beautiful work BB.

I find this site, which I’m you already know of, but just in case you don’t it might be worthwhile looking into:

  5. Thanks, Susan. With your eye for design, I’m sure once you’ve got the hang of your camera you’ll be producing some magic stuff.

I haven’t heard of that site (I don’t think.. will know when I go exploring), so thanks for passing it on. x

    • You can upload your own photo and it will search the web to see if it has been used elsewhere. Thought it might be helpful for photographers:)

p.s. I have a new lil toy. Of course I am clueless as to how to actually play, er use it. But it is a Nikon D5000. A little step forward from the Fujifilm.

  6. Ahhhh! I have used that before, but forgot what it was called and couldn’t find it again. Ta!!

A Nikon? I’ve heard some good people use those. πŸ™‚

Try playing with the settings while it doesn’t matter (that is, at home when there is nothing to lose – the subject being not time sensitive) or you will always end up reverting to auto everything when you’re out and at functions because you won’t have time to get it wrong.

    Enjoy! πŸ˜€

(I’ll be waiting to see good things)

  7. I wil be playing with the settings BB, I will. I haven’t taken any photos over winter because shots of my mac would get boring after awhile (and that’s all I do in winter. ::smile:: ) But I have een itching to get outside and clicking.

Is it silly of me to write out some cheat sheets on an index card? In other words, find the manual settings for various settings and write it on the card. Then I an quickly access the card and change the settings. This might help me until I get the hang of it. It is quicker than rifling through the manual. Or am I just being silly?

    • Shots of a Mac could never be boring πŸ˜‰

Your cheat sheets sound like an idea worth trying. Just the act of having to write it out ought to help motivate you to not waste your homework πŸ˜€

  8. “the male thing” is really funny πŸ˜€

    lovely shot!

    that blue… is oohsome!

    September 1, 2011 at 1:00 am

    • Vimal, I think life’s many evidences of the male thing are pretty funny πŸ˜‰

The blue – I wish I’d caught it better, but it was full, bright sunlight, and that tends to wash out the colour some. It’s spectacular blue when it is captured truly.
